Corruptin Perception Index 2009 - Ukraine took 146th place out of 180.

November 17, 2009 in Berlin, the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption, Transparency International presented the results of its research - the Corruption Perception Index 2009.

“At a time when massive stimulus packages, fast-track disbursements of public funds and attempts to secure peace are being implemented around the world, it is essential to identify where corruption blocks good governance and accountability, in order to break its corrosive cycle” said Huguette Labelle, Chair of Transparency International (TI).

Countries are evaluated on a 10-point scale, where "0" means the extreme corruption of the state, and "10" indicates a low level of corruption.
The vast majority of the 180 countries included in the Corruption Perception Index 2009, got the score lower than 5.

Rating of Ukraine gets worse and worse:
in 2006, Ukraine took 99th place out of 163 possible (index 2.8);
in 2007 Ukraine took 118th place out of 180 possible (index 2.7);
in 2008, Ukraine took 134th place out of 180 possible (index 2.5);
in 2009, Ukraine's rating fell to 146th place out of 180 with an index of 2.2.

This rating is not the first year assesses the perceived levels of corruption in the public sector of any country and it is a combined index, based on 13 different expert surveys and researches.
Just as in 2008, the rating in 2009 was attended by 180 countries, a full list of which you can read here.

Also, Transparency International has prepared a regional overview, including an overview of South-Eastern and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
